Exhibit I’m currently hanging work for a solo at the Milburn Stone Gallery at Cecil College, and prepping for classes which start at the end of August. I was told M.Stone was an actor in Gunsmoke (1955), then promptly considered looping the classic as part of my show. I should probably watch it first…

Photo/Video Cecil has this amazing closet of photographic goodies for check out. I’m especially enjoying the GoPro—hooked one to my bike helmet, surf board, and look forward to the chest harness for an upcoming Run for Your Lives 5k. I’ve also been loving the Canon t21 video feature, but haven’t made anything significant past constantly handing it off to my cousins. In GoPro realm I’m thinking non-extreme, like mowing the lawn.

New Favorite Thing In honor of Steve Lambert getting double funding for his capitalism project, I’d like to post my newest favorite thing below, out of context. Ok, here’s your context. Also this this version of Home by Edward Sharpe is pretty cute.

UPDATE: 7/6/2011
Philadelphia Weekly wrote a nice paragraph about my image below, and summary of the show which you can find here.

“…Like Youngman, Jacono also plies subcultures with a critical eye; his black-and-white pigment print, “Praise,” captures the devoted in different states of worship—many of whom were no doubt surprised when the forecasted Rapture called in a rain check this past May. As in much of his work, the photo collage is laced with the idea of being sick of consumer culture, hinted at here by the Megachurch mantra that faith returns in riches. Jacono’s image is a patchwork of snapshots sutured together to form a pulsing sea of raised arms and upturned faces that bear more than a passing resemblance to brokers on the floor of the stock exchange.”

Earlier this month, I sent a big box of framed works to a fellow curatorial intern at the VASA Project, Alisandra Wederich. She manages the art gallery at the Straube Center in Pennington, NJ, and agreed to exhibit some of my work. Here’s a link to my artist page over there with images of the work, a statement and bio. You can also find some of the pieces for sale right here.

TODAY: Óscar Benassini and PRETEEN GALLERY presents A 21st Century Idea of Happiness (press release). In addition, Óscar did a nice synopsis of the included artists:

Emily´s piece is a series of audio tracks called Unanswered Questions Adam´s piece is a video called Mantalk, involving consumer culture and contemporary art critcism. Michelle´s piece is an installation that evokes some a fordism feeling involved in a post 90´s and obscure ritual. Hopeh Epoh, Nik and Daniel pieces are nostalgic posters reminding hellenistic aesthetics recovered through software.

In other, less fine-arty news…
I did a craft fair in Danville, VA in early May. Kris and I had this perfect spot under a tree where we basically people-watched all day. They closed the street down so I skated the massive Main St. hill and we met lots of people from the community, including Jerry from Spin Bike Shop (I’m in the works for building him a new site).
