Design I
East Carolina University

This course is required for all incoming art majors. It's integral to the foundation-level classes in the School of Art and Design. Students walk away from the class with keen attention to craft, a strong understanding of design principles, and a solid body of work.

Course Objectives
-Understand the elements and principles of design
-Learn about physical properties of color, concepts of color relationships, and pigment mixing
-Learn to solve visual problems and create effective compositions
-Practice and develop good craftsmanship
-Develop and improve the ability to describe, discuss and critique design/composition of artwork
-Preparation for the general foundations terminology exam: you are required to pass
